This series is an exploration of abstract expressionistic images found in an unlikely and overlooked place, the aluminum utility poles on South Main Street, Providence, Rhode Island.
These poles become the catch all for the looking for a roommate or lost cat flyers. Over time these notices are ripped off or are melted away by the weather leaving behind the more permanent adhesives used to affix them to the pole. With the addition of a bit of graffiti we see beginnings of urban blight in the form of this visual pollution.
Taking the time to look a little closer, in the midst of this visual cacophony, something catches my eye. A shape, some lines, a splash of color, form emerges. Using close focus, I’m able to explore and segment these forms reveling abstract expressionistic compositions.
