I find B&W intriguing but difficult to master. In color photography, color, subject, and aesthetics make up three legs to support an image and hold the viewer’s attention. Color can be so powerful that it may stand alone. In black-and-white photography, the subject and aesthetics determine the life or death of an image. When an image is abstract, it’s further stripped of recognizable subject matter and must still be strong enough to sing with its own voice and evoke emotion within the viewer.
